and trance Showrunner Sam Levinson may have had this in mind when he pitched Sydney’s story for the show’s third season.
Yes, trance Season 3 begins tonight, and it looks like Sydney’s character, Cassie, is now engaged to Nate Jacobs and creating adult content for a living.
Cassie seems to have found a very specific niche, as the two scenes that show her on camera also show her dressed as a dog.
At one point, she literally wags her tail, a moment that’s sure to be heavily featured in GIFs in the coming weeks.
There was a time when the third season of trance It seemed unlikely, despite the show’s popularity.
After all, several members of the show’s cast — including Sydney and her on-screen fiancé, Jacob Elordi — have become big stars, and there were concerns that they might not want to return to the small-screen high school that made them famous.
And the final season, which airs again in 2022, means the actors — most of whom are now approaching 30 — will be somewhat less believable as high school students, presenting the producers with a strange dilemma.
Well, we may never know how Levinson solved the first problem, but he came up with a clever solution to the second:
According to Zendaya Street’s voiceover, the narration begins “several years” after high school.
Nate works construction, Rue is still involved in the world of hard drugs (although she seems to be clinging to sobriety), Maddie is stripping, Jules is a “sugar baby,” and Cassie, of course, is creating furry content.
Needless to say, things did not go as planned for the East Highland High School graduates.
But the time jump will undermine a major criticism of the series — which is that storylines involving large-scale drug trafficking and international crime syndicates are starting to seem ridiculous in the context of a show about suburban high school students.
Zendaya remains the moral and narrative center of the series, but Sidney has arguably become the most popular actress on the planet for days trance Season 2, so expect a lot of this week’s trailer discourse to revolve around Cassie.
Sadly, the trailer reminds us that one of the show’s breakout stars, Angus Cloud, passed away in 2023.
Barbie Ferreira will not be returning either, after she reportedly clashed with Levinson on set.
trance Season 3 will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on April 12.
