Months after the BJP-JD(U) alliance’s landslide victory in Bihar – which paved the way for a record 10th term for Nitish Kumar – the BJP president who has been at the helm of state politics for two decades is ready for a new role.

Sources told HT that Nitish Kumar is likely to enter Rajya Sabha, marking a new shift in Bihar politics, which has already witnessed many twists and turns over the past decade.
Press Ti quoted sources as saying that Nitish is likely to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections in Patna. The political development means that Nitish can no longer remain chief minister of Bihar, a state that the JD(U) has dominated for the past two decades, regardless of whether an RJD or BJP alliance comes along.

Earlier in the day, a crucial meeting of the Janata Dal (United) was held in which senior party leaders, including Sanjay Jha and Rajiv Ranjan Singh, attended.
The JD(U) president is expected to file nomination alongside Nitin Nabin, another personality from Bihar who made a surprise debut as BJP president, according to a PTI report.
“JD(U) president Nitish Kumar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin will file their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday. Home Minister Amit Shah will still be present on the occasion,” PTI quoted a source as saying. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also be present in Patna to attend the event.
Nitish Kumar’s nomination to the Senate comes amid speculation that Nitish’s son, Nishant Kumar, was expected to enter politics with a Rajya Sabha nomination from the JD(U) camp. Elections are scheduled for five seats in Bihar. While the BJP is fielding its contenders for two seats, the JD(U) is expected to nominate two candidates.
