The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has filed a criminal complaint against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and an unidentified person, alleging a criminal conspiracy to disrupt public order and discredit the protest organized by the group at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

According to the complaint, an individual entered the June 6 protest and allegedly made controversial statements while interacting with reporters and members of the public on camera.

The CJP claimed that the comments, which allegedly included support for the partition of India, were intended to incite anger and wrongly link the protest to anti-national views.

CJP cites a social media post

The complaint refers to a post made by Iyer Mitra on social media, in which he said he had “sent” a man to the protest site. The CJP cited this post as evidence of his involvement in the incident and identified the man as Mayank Bhandari.

While Iyer-Mitra reportedly described the incident as a mockery or a form of field reporting, the organization has claimed that the act was deliberate and premeditated. The complaint asserts that the goal was to disrupt a peaceful assembly, inflame public sentiment and create conditions that could lead to a law and order situation.

Sourav Das continues to try to disrupt the protest

In a video statement released by the organisation, CJP spokesperson Sourav Das said the group expected attempts by “anti-social” and “anti-India” elements to infiltrate the demonstration.

“On June 6, the youth held a historic protest at Jantar Mantar. But before this protest, we had repeatedly warned that some anti-social and anti-India elements would try to infiltrate the protest and either make provocative speeches or make inflammatory statements to the media.”

Referring to Iyer Mitra’s social media post, he added: “Just yesterday, Abhijit Iyer Mitra, a member of what we call the ‘Danga Dalal gang’ (riot broker gang), posted a tweet admitting that he had sent a person named Mayank Bhandari to the protest.”

Das alleged that these individuals were trying to undermine the movement due to the increasing participation of youth.

“We have already warned that members of the so-called riot mediation gang will infiltrate the protest and try to derail it. They will try to delegitimize it because they cannot bear the fact that 65% of the country’s youth may unite and put forward their demands. This is a very serious issue,” he said.

He also urged the organization’s supporters to remain vigilant during the upcoming demonstrations.

Controversial statements made in the complaint

The video statement shared by CJP also included a clip that forms part of the basis of her complaint. In the unverified footage, a reporter asks a man if he will tolerate calls to divide the country.

“If someone came here and said the country should be divided into seven parts, would you tolerate that?” the reporter asks.

“Sure,” the man answers.

The reporter continues: Will you tolerate dividing the country into 60 parts?

“Sure,” the man answers again.

The CJP claimed that the statements were made with the aim of discrediting the protest and associating the organizers with views they do not support. The allegations in the complaint have not been independently verified by HT.
