After last season’s rebound, the four major broadcast networks have largely held their course in 2025-2026. Stability is playing across the big four broadcasters (as has been the case for some time), and this doesn’t look like it will change much until the 2026-27 season.
One thing is that an act Change this year: Sports programming is starting to take up more prime-time real estate, with NBC moving Tuesdays and Sundays after the NFL season to the NBA (followed by baseball in the spring and summer), and ABC making Monday Night Football It’s more or less a permanent feature of its fall lineup and Fox continues to dedicate two nights (Friday and Saturday) to sports throughout the year.
This means less room for comedies, dramas and unscripted shows, which could result in some marginally performing series being squeezed out. On the other hand, NBC is also leading a small-scale revival of the pilot season this year, suggesting that the network is open to adding more scripted shows to its slate. Paramount’s new CEO David Ellison has also talked about the importance of linear networks (the company owns CBS) — although the company’s potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery could have a major impact on the studio side of the TV business.
Below is THR’Our annual guide to what’s coming back, what’s not coming back, and what’s new at broadcast networks. Bookmark this page for updates as the season ends and the network prelims approach.
