Chris Evans has revealed why he finally feels ready to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday after more than five years away from the role.
The 45-year-old actor, who last played the star-studded hero in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” explained that he turned down numerous project offers over the course of eight years before the right mix of creative forces and returning stars lined up to bring him back into the fold.According to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Evans spoke with Gerrad Hall at San Diego Comic-Con about his journey into the MCU. The actor revealed that Lou D’Esposito and Kevin Feige first approached him about continuing Steve Rogers’ story right after the conclusion of Endgame in 2018, with Marvel bosses suggesting exploring the character as Nomad, an alternate identity adopted by Steve Rogers in the comic book canon.

“When we finished Endgame in 2018, Lou and Kevin took me out to dinner and said, ‘We’d like to keep doing movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad,’” Chris Evans recalls. “And I said, ‘Well, what do you have?’”

Marvel executives arrived prepared with creative concepts. “They showed me a presentation, which was a great presentation, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t feel right at the time,” Chris Evans said. “I kind of wanted to preserve it.

The studio has not relented in its efforts to bring back Chris Evans. “Over the course of eight years, I probably heard at least a dozen steps,” the actor said.
“And they were all great. It never felt right. “It suddenly became like, ‘This is it,'” Chris Evans explained, referring to the “Avengers: Doomsday” co-director.Robert Downey Jr. will star in Doomsday, but this time he will play Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom instead of Tony Stark/Iron Man. The actor’s return in a villainous role added gravitas and star power to the project that ultimately convinced Chris Evans that the moment was right.

“I think you should never say never, but I’m definitely not willing to go back to anything because I think everyone here is precious for their role in the universe,” he explained. “These things have earned their place over a long period of time.
