The first teaser for the Canadian series Yaga Finally here.
The first look at the series was given on Saturday during the San Diego Comic-Con panel. The half-hour mystery thriller, which hails from Canadian streaming channel Crave and is set to stream on AMC+ in the US, stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reed, Clarke Bacow, and Hudson Williams. Yaga It will premiere in October, the team revealed during the panel.
String tags Hot competition Breakout Williams’ first big project since the quirky hockey romantic drama, another Crave original, blew up late last year. Moss, Reed, and Paco were present at the SDCC panel where the teaser premiered, along with executive producer and showrunner Kat Sandler. Both Moss and Williams were unable to be at the panel but sent video messages to the gathered crowd.
Crave released first look photos earlier this week, which show Moss and Williams in a close-up kiss, Paco and Reed appearing to be chasing something or someone, and Moss looking equal parts ethereal and creepy alone in the woods. A large poster for the chain appeared along the San Diego building in the days leading up to SDCC. AMC+ and Crave have teased the show and SDCC appearance on social media as well.
Yaga The series is based on a play by Sandler, who serves as the show’s writer and director, and is a contemporary reimagining of the Baba Yaga legend set in a coastal town. Crave called the series “Not Your Grandma’s Baba Yaga” in a recent Instagram post.
The series follows a private investigator named Rab, played by Reed, who heads to a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park, played by Williams, the young heir to a powerful fishing industry. The show summary says:[Rapp] He finds himself at odds with local detective Carson (Paco), a charismatic college professor who loves younger men, Catherine (Moss) and a maze of mysterious suspects, secret lives and ancient magic.
Sadler said in an initial release that the series has evolved from “myth to stage” into her first greenlit series, “reclaiming the Wicked Witch and remaking her as an incendiary feminist heroine for our time.” She continued, “It reflects the kind of storytelling I love: propulsive, accessible, dark, funny, and unapologetically bold.”
Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franke, Patrick Gilmore, Katherine Isabelle and Hiro Kanagawa also star in the series, along with Emilija Baranac, Georgia Akin, Anissa Harris and Sam Krochmal.
Yaga Produced by Front Street Pictures and Blink49 Studios. Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller and Moss serve as executive producers, and Charles Cooper serves as producer. Sandler directs the series, with David Frazee and Rachel Talalay directing.
