Amid the release of his two blockbuster summer films, Odyssey and Spider-Man: A Brand New DayTom Holland is also looking forward to his next challenge by portraying Fred Astaire.
The 30-year-old actor is set to star as the golden-age star and dancehall star in Sony Pictures’ untitled Fred Astere drama, directed by Paul King, which was announced five years ago. During his last appearance on Good morning AmericaHolland revealed that he has begun dance training and plans to return to training once his current press tour ends.
“Now I feel like I’ve started this chapter where I can’t get away with being a teenager anymore, and for me, what I love about my job is the challenges,” he said. “We have the next Fred Astaire, [which] It is what we plan to do. Once I’m done with these rounds, I’ll go back to the dance studio.
He continued, “I did my first few rehearsals recently. It filled me with excitement and absolute dread because I have a lot of work to do to try and make Fred proud.”
Explaining how he hopes to honor Astaire’s legacy, Holland said, “I have a desire not to use a duet. To do all the dances. To film those dances in one take. How he would have done that.”
Holland has a dance background, in which she has starred Billy Elliot the Musical In London’s West End from 2008 to 2010.
During a separate appearance on Live with Kelly and MarkHolland considered walking away from dancing after that Billy Elliot.
“One of the biggest regrets in my career is after I finished Billy ElliotI stopped dancing.”
“To have the opportunity to rediscover this world that I loved so much, and to which I owe so much,” he explained. “I am very excited about this challenge.”
Odysseyin which Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope, is now in theaters. His fourth solo Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: A Brand New Dayopens July 31.
