Ridley Scott and Hugh Jackman take them Treasure Island The film has been sent to Sony, which is in talks to acquire the package from the duo.
Scott will direct from a script by Adolescence Co-created by Jack Thorne, Jackman stars in the film based on the works of Robert Louis Stevenson.
Stevenson’s tale, first published in the 1880s in serialized form and then as a novel, tells of a young cabin boy named Jim who finds himself in possession of a treasure map. Soon, searching for the lost treasure, he comes into contact with Long John Silver, a one-legged cook who is secretly a pirate and leading a deadly rebellion. All parties find themselves on the shore of a deserted tropical island, fighting for their lives and for treasure.
The book caught Hollywood’s attention back in the silent era of the city. Jackie Cooper and Lionel Barrymore starred in the first talkie version in 1934, and Disney released a version in 1950. Even Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy got in on the action in 1996 with Treasure Island DollsWhich featured Tim Curry in the role of Silver. In 2002, Walt Disney Animation took Jim into space with him Treasure planet.
Scott will produce the remake with Michael Bruce via Scott Free. is next in theaters with Dog starsbased on the post-apocalyptic novel by Peter Heller. The film arrives August 28 from 20th Century Studios and stars Jacob Elordi. The director is repped by CAA and Gang Tire.
Jackman recently starred in the film A24 The death of Robin Hoodbesides Sheep investigations For Amazon MGM Studios. He previously played the pirate Blackbeard in Pan, the prequel to Warner Bros.’ 2015 Peter Pan. He is repped by WME and Sloane Offer.
