Chris Rock returns behind the camera with his latest effort as a writer and director, a Hollywood-themed film Misty green.
The A24 film, whose trailer dropped today, follows an actress whose career stalled years after her breakout role, as she fights for her second act.
Rosalind Eleazar stars as Misty Green alongside Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace and Rock.
The trailer begins with Misty being kicked out of her apartment by a woman who claims the place belongs to her husband.
“I’m broke,” Misty says early on. “It’s not just me, I have my brother [played by Kaluuya]”.
She is later shown meeting with CEO Topher Grace who says of Misty’s prospects, “It’s tough out there. I don’t know if I can even convince you of that.” Law and order now.”
Misty seems to follow her own schedule and rules of the game, declaring: “I wake up when I want to wake up. I sleep when I want to sleep. I get high when I want to get high. I have sex when I want to have sex.”
But it also looks like she may have burned some bridges as Rock’s character recalls, “The last time I threw at you, I punched that bitch in the face.”
“She hit me first,” Misty insists.
Grace later suggested that she may be at least partly to blame for her situation, saying “You’re not a complete anonymous fogey. Is Hollywood racist, yeah. Don’t act like you never got a chance.”
Misty is also shown confronting Driver’s character who makes her an offer: “I’m looking for open-minded friends who might want to make a little extra money.”
She is seen auditioning to sing “One Night Only” and her brother is going through hard times including what looks like a period behind bars.
Misty greenbased on an original script by Rock, is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival before hitting theaters in October.
Rock has previously directed features such as Head of state (2003), I think I love my wife (2007) and was well received Top five (2014).
He has also recently starred in films Rosten, Amsterdam and Spiral: From the book Saw And on the FX series Fargo. In 2023, Rock released his own streaming special on Netflix Selective angerin which he talked about being slapped by Will Smith at the Academy Awards the previous year.
