Unidentified persons in Manipur blew up the bailey bridge constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Kamjung district on Wednesday morning, police said, adding that it disrupted communication with several villages.
Police received information at 9.30 a.m. that unidentified persons blew up the bailey bridge constructed over the Namban Lok River, between Phang Village and Chatrik Village in Kamjong District.
A senior police officer said: “The miscreants used explosive devices while blowing up the bridge. The said bridge is nothing but a link between Chattrik and the surrounding villages and the district headquarters.”
The officer added that the cause and the accused have not yet been known, and said that the investigation is underway.

In another incident, a four-wheeler telecom vehicle parked on the bank of the Namban Lok river also caught fire.
A police statement said: “This act appears to have been committed deliberately and with the intent to cause serious damage to public property and vital infrastructure, disrupt essential transportation and communications services, obstruct public movement, and incite fear and insecurity among the general public. The incident also amounts to an illegal act that endangers public safety and affects the security of the state.”
Motu’s case has been registered at Chasad police station under the relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
On July 2, a mob also set fire to another telecom vehicle carrying telecom assets heading towards Saikul village in Kangpokpi area of Imphal East district. The mob alleged that the vehicle was transporting illegal substances including tobacco and other intoxicating substances despite repeated pleas and warnings.
Tension has been lingering in Manipur’s Ukhrul and Kamjong districts since February, escalating after the May 13 double ambush in Kangpokpi and Noni districts, which claimed the lives of four people including three church leaders and a Naga man.
