The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a resolution suspending Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee for the remainder of the monsoon session over his use of unparliamentary language against a woman MP.
Announcing the decision, Speaker Krishna Prasad Teneti said that Banerjee’s remarks had “damaged the dignity of the Assembly”, following which a resolution was adopted to suspend him for the rest of the session, PTI reported.
The resolution was adopted by a voice vote amid slogans raised by opposition members over NEET paper leak and other issues.
After the proposal was approved, President Krishna Prasad Teneti directed Kalyan Banerjee to leave the Assembly campus. The Lok Sabha session was later adjourned for the day as Opposition members continued to raise slogans.

Earlier on Wednesday, Banerjee was involved in a heated debate with some of his former Trinamool Congress colleagues, who are now members of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), inside the Lok Sabha chamber after the House adjourned amid opposition protests.
NCPI MPs participating in the exchange include Mitali Bagh, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. Banerjee remained with the TMC under party chief Mamata Banerjee. The reason for the confrontation was not immediately known.
A number of opposition representatives intervened to defuse the situation. The report added that when other opposition members asked him about the incident, Banerjee left the House.
Bagh, Dastedar and some other NCPI MPs later met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in his chamber, apparently to raise the matter.
Twenty TMC MPs rebelled against the party leadership after its defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections and subsequently joined the Indian National Congress. Since then, they have been separated from the TMC members in the Lok Sabha.
The monsoon session ends on August 13.
