Robert Downey Jr. is ready to bring doom to Marvel’s Avengers.
Disney has released the trailer for directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo Avengers: Doomsdayis scheduled to hit theaters on December 18 (watch below). The film includes an extensive roster of Marvel superheroes who take on Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., best known for his previous role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man.
The trailer, which premiered at CinemaCon in April, offers the first look at Downey’s character Doctor Doom in his mask. “Put aside your petty differences. Assume nothing but this: If you come back, you’ll come back as brothers and sisters,” Chris Hemsworth’s Thor tells his fellow heroes in the footage about the threat posed by death. “Mark my words: We’re going to need a miracle.”
A different moment in the footage shows Chris Evans surprising Hemsworth, who shouts, “This is not possible,” as Evans grabs Thor’s hammer.
Previously released teasers from the film included a look at Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Captain America (Evans), Thor (Hemsworth), and the X-Men’s Cyclops (James Marsden). Downey’s return as Doom was not revealed in those teasers, although he appeared briefly last year. The Fantastic Four: The First Steps Without showing his face.

“He’s not just a villain — he’s one of Marvel’s most complex characters,” said Joe Russo of the CinemaCon stage. “He’s always three steps ahead.”
At the event, Downey told the audience: “I could not have imagined reuniting with this amazing team – let alone as a new character.”
