Like many of her relatives, Amy Duggar King was deeply affected by Joseph Duggar’s criminal cases.
During a recent interview, she said she had already spoken with Joseph’s alleged victim.
Amy says that she provided encouragement and praise to the girl, who was only 9 years old, in the 2020 series of events.
She also expressed her dissatisfaction that Youssef would confess and then retract it and force this girl to endure his trial.
“You are a strong person”
During her recent interview on Sarah Fraser ShowAmy revealed that she spoke with the girl at the center of Joseph’s criminal case in Florida.
In 2020, Joseph went on a family vacation. Sadly, traveling interstate for vacation during the first month of a deadly pandemic is the least terrifying detail in this story.
The unnamed accuser, now in her early teens, was just 9 years old when she said Joseph repeatedly molested her during the trip.
It apparently didn’t happen until earlier this year when she told her family. Her father contacted Joseph, who reportedly twice confessed to the vile crime – although he has since pleaded not guilty in court.
“I just gave her hope. I told her, ‘This doesn’t have to destroy you.’ “It’s really not,” Amy said as she spoke with the girl. “I told her that if she needed a safe place to talk, I was here.”
According to Amy, she also praised the girl’s strength in coming forward.
“You’re speaking out and you’re so honest and vulnerable,” she correctly assessed.
“Knowing the backlash and knowing the people who might turn their backs on you and not believe you, you’re a strong person,” Amy added.
Admittedly, we don’t know why Amy and the girl are talking. It seems unlikely that any courtroom would want to hear a relative of the accused speak to the victim before trial.
However, she is right when she says that progress requires tremendous courage. Especially if, as many suspect, the girl belongs to a similarly insular fundamentalist social circle, where girls are considered second-class at best, and where consent is not truly taught or understood.
‘I don’t understand …’
Like many, Amy expressed dismay at how Joseph reportedly confessed more than once to the crimes, but then pleaded not guilty when it came to being arraigned.
“I don’t understand how you can admit it and say you did it, and then go back and change it,” she expressed.
“And I said, ‘Well, maybe I said that, but I didn’t mean it,'” Amy continued.
It is clear that many confessions are coerced from people, some of whom may lack legal representation and may have been subjected to sleep deprivation.
Joseph reportedly confessed first to the child’s father and then over the phone to police. This is not so completely The same scenario where someone stays up all night and then risks losing their job if they arrive late to work the next day, thinking they can leave the interrogation room if they sign a false confession.
Some have speculated on social media that the baby and her family may be known to the wider Duggar family, not just Joseph.
If so, that might explain why he let Amy talk to her. If the Duggars were unknown to family except Joseph, it could still happen, but it seems less likely.
As for the plea of ”innocence”… one can only assume either that the reality of losing everything had set in, or that Joseph simply spoke with a lawyer who told him (in all fairness, while doing his job) about the realities of prison.
Without knowing more, it is difficult to say whether his previous confessions could be used effectively against Joseph in court.
It seems likely any The defense attorney will move to prevent the prosecution from even mentioning them, let alone introducing any recordings into evidence, playing them for the jury, or giving testimony about the confessions from those who heard them.
It’s a shame that this girl will likely have to testify and even face cross-examination in court.
