Redditor says moving to Canada was the worst decision of life.
A recent post by a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) against everything in Canada has divided the internet with the user announcing his decision to return to India after seven years. The Redditor is a permanent resident of Canada but says the plastic PR card isn’t worth it.
The post does not mention any specific reason for leaving Canada, such as job loss or anything else, but it paints a bleak picture of the country.“It’s insanely expensive: The cost of living is out of control. Rent takes up almost your entire paycheck, groceries are a luxury, and you’re basically just living, not living. You’re trapped in a cycle of working just to pay the bills,” the post read.“The job market is a joke: finding a decent professional job is very difficult.
They always ask for “Canadian experience,” which is just a polite way of dismissing all your hard work back home. “Many highly educated immigrants end up stuck in survival jobs,” the Redditor said of the job situation in Canada.”The health care system is broken: Good luck getting a family doctor. If you get sick, you’ll wait hours in the emergency room or months just to see a specialist. It’s scary how difficult it is to get basic medical care.”
“The weather is depressing: winters are freezing and dark and last for six months. This seriously affects your mental health,” the person wrote, adding that Australia is much better, brighter and happier than Canada.“I’m done trying to convince myself that things will get better. I have booked my ticket and will officially return to India. If you are planning to migrate, please think twice. Don’t fall into the dream trap they are selling you online.”
“Canada is not what it used to be, and for me, this was the worst move of my life.”Many social media users wondered why Redditors were aware of all the negativity in Canada after getting PR and how returning to India would be better. “This is like buying a bike because your suspension is bad,” one person quipped.“I have been in Canada for 10 years. I have had a successful career in IT and have built a net worth of close to $1 million CAD (without real estate).
I work in IT at a Canadian bank,” another wrote. The Canadian national who moved to India had experience on both sides. “If you’ve lived your entire life in a fast-paced, tier-one Indian city like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru or Hyderabad and enjoyed constant activity, nightlife and being around family, Canada may feel quiet and isolated. But if you’re looking for cleaner air, safer food, better public systems, a predictable work culture and the opportunity to build an independent life, Canada still has a lot to offer,” the person wrote.
