Chadwick Boseman’s brothers launch family business to continue his storytelling legacy: ‘Fame wasn’t something Chad was looking for’
Nearly six years after Chadwick Boseman’s death, the late actor’s family confirms that his passion for storytelling will live on. His older brothers, Kevin Boseman and Derek Boseman, launched Boseman Family LLC, a creative venture dedicated to developing projects in storytelling, the arts and community impact rather than operating as a traditional family business.The company, founded in the fall of 2025, aims to honor the vision of the Black Panther star while creating opportunities for artists, filmmakers and emerging voices in entertainment.

Speaking to AfroTech, Kevin Boseman said the idea for Boseman Family LLC was inspired by Chadwick Boseman’s production company and a growing interest in projects that celebrate his life and work.“What inspired me was, of course, Chad had his own company, and there were some offers that came in to do work inspired by him, and we kind of felt like the best way to approach the business, and partner with other businesses, was to start a business,” Kevin said.Derek Boseman revealed that the family took their time before deciding who to work with.“I always ask God to put people in my path that will move me or push us in the direction he wants us to go,” he said, adding that after turning down many offers over the years, they eventually met two women who became the company’s management team and helped shape its vision.
The Bossman brothers want to build Creative ecosystem
Instead of focusing solely on financial wealth, Kevin and Derek Boseman say they want the company to create long-term opportunities for artists and storytellers.
Kevin noted that the entertainment industry has seen many successful family dynasties and believes the Boseman family has similar creative potential.“There are a lot of family lines in entertainment,” he said, referring to families like the Jacksons and the Wayans. He added that many of their extended family members are singers, actors, filmmakers, photographers and musicians.He hopes Boseman Family LLC will become an “ecosystem” where family members and collaborators can support each other’s creative endeavors while nurturing new talent.
Chadwick Boseman play Deep sky blue It continues to reach new audiences
The company’s launch comes shortly after Chadwick Boseman’s play Deep Azure premiered in the UK at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, a landmark event that holds special meaning for the family.Derek Boseman admitted that grief remains an ongoing journey even years after Chadwick Boseman’s death.“Grief is a very difficult beast,” he said, explaining that every new project associated with Chadwick brings back memories of his younger brother.
“Grief is an ongoing process.”Kevin said creative work has also helped him process the loss. He recalls performing with Dance Against Cancer in New York in 2021, where he spoke about his and Chadwick’s cancer journeys while using dance as a way to cope with grief.
Kevin Bousman remembers Chadwick writing Deep Azure
One of Kevin Boseman’s fondest memories is of the time when Chadwick first moved to New York after graduating from Howard University.Kevin offered his younger brother a place to stay while he toured with Alvin Ailey, giving him space to focus on writing.
During that period, Chadwick began working on Deep Azure.Kevin recalled being amazed by the play’s unique style, saying that Chadwick blended Shakespearean poetry with modern language and hip-hop influences.He added that seeing the play performed at Shakespeare’s Globe after his brother’s death fulfilled a dream he had long hoped would become a reality.
Chadwick Boseman’s family teases future projects
Looking forward to what would have been Chadwick Boseman’s 50th birthday on November 29, 2026, the Boseman brothers said they are continuing to develop projects that reflect the late actor’s values and artistic vision.Derek said Chadwick encouraged the brothers to use his work as inspiration to move forward in their own lives.“I think he would be proud,” Derek said. “Chad wasn’t looking for fame. Chad really enjoyed doing this work, and fame came with that, but I think he would be proud of us.”
