Faridabad Government Hospital has suspended four employees after they were found absent from the emergency department during working hours, officials said.

The suspension order, issued on July 10, follows a verbal complaint from a patient who came to the hospital on the night of July 3.

Hospital officials said the reason for the staff’s absence has not yet been determined.

Hospital director Devender Kumar Atal said: “This is serious negligence that puts the safety of patients at risk, which is why such strict action has been taken against the people concerned.”

The nurse was alleged to be a repeat offender and had been warned in advance. “As per CCTV recordings, the nurse was continuously absent for three days during her night duty hours. She was unable to provide a valid reason for her absence,” Atal told HT.

The junior doctors have been suspended for seven days by the management and are likely to be terminated as they were deployed on contractual basis, he said, adding that the staff nurse, who is a permanent employee of the hospital, will face further investigation in the case, the director said.

This comes after a series of lapses related to the safety of hospitals and staff that were reported in various districts of southern Haryana such as Gurugram, Palwal and Nuh.
