Iran accused Kushner and Witkoff of profiting from war leaks in a private letter to Vance, according to the report
Iranian negotiators reportedly sent a private message to US Vice President J.D. Vance during US-Iran talks in Switzerland in late June, warning that the continued presence of President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner would undermine the chance of a lasting agreement, a senior Iranian official told Drop Site News. The official said Iran told Vance that the two men were more interested in exploiting inside knowledge of the negotiations to profit in financial markets than in reaching an agreement. Iranian negotiators also expressed concern about repeated leaks from Kushner to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.“Even before the Islamabad talks began in April, we had already sent multiple messages to Trump through the Pakistanis, warning them of the comprehensive destructive role played by Witkopf in the previous negotiations,” the Iranian official said.
Iran claimed $9 billion in alleged market manipulation
In the weeks leading up to the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the official said Iran had provided written documents to the mediators of what it described as evidence that “individuals close to President Trump” were abusing the Iran war and diplomatic developments to manipulate financial markets.Iran calculated that profits from this alleged manipulation reached $9 billion and formally requested that Iran share in the proceeds.
“We have informed through intermediaries that $4.5 billion of this amount should also be allocated to the Iranian side,” the official said.
The White House denies these allegations
A US official denied Iran’s claims, telling Drop Site News: “A message of this kind was never conveyed to the Vice President or his team. Additionally, any suggestion that other members of the President’s trusted negotiating team are operating under motives other than serving the President and carrying out his mission is false.”White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said: “No such message was ever conveyed to the United States. It is sad that DropSite News reporters are so filled with hatred for America and so lacking in respect for themselves that they have become complete propaganda for the Iranian regime.”Kushner and Witkoff did not respond to requests for comment.
Iran saw Vance more DrIt can be dispensed with
The Iranian official said Tehran believes Vance brings a “more sober, professional and realistic perspective” to the negotiations.
A source close to Vance said the vice president is searching extensively for partners on the Iranian side, describing it as “diplomacy 101.”Robert Malley, the former chief U.S. negotiator in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, said it was strategically sound for the Iranians to work to establish direct contact with Vance, but such a channel could only mean so much. “If today’s President Trump can’t talk about tomorrow, how can J.D. Vance?” He told Drop Site News. The future of any agreement between Iran and the United States remains in doubt, with Trump declaring that the ceasefire is “over” while indicating that diplomatic talks will continue.
