A 35-year-old woman with nine children killed her husband with an ax over frequent quarrels and suspicion that he was having an extramarital affair, and she would eventually abandon her in Madhya Pradesh’s Kargaon district, a police official said on Tuesday.

The woman, Romli Bai Dudoye (35), who allegedly killed her husband with an ax while he was sleeping at home, was arrested and sent to judicial custody by a local court, the official said.
According to the police, the horrific incident took place in Khadra Chidiya Bazaar village under Chinpur police station limits, and the victim was identified as Ida Dudoy (45).

Bito Sehgal, Assistant Inspector of Police in Karjuni City, said that the brother of the deceased filed a complaint on July 10 alleging that an unknown person had killed Ida Dudoy.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the crime was committed by an outsider, as the wife of the deceased told the police the same story. However, as the investigation progressed, police learned of frequent quarrels between the husband and wife, he said.
After being rigorously interrogated, Rumli Bay allegedly confessed to killing her husband. Segal stated that the accused revealed during interrogation that her husband was having an affair with another woman, and she was afraid that he would abandon her and their nine children and marry his girlfriend.
The husband-wife duo often quarrel over marital problems and the man’s alleged extramarital affair. He said that Romley Bay, tired of the long-standing feud and fearing abandonment, killed her husband with an ax while he was sleeping on the night between July 9 and 10.

The woman initially tried to mislead the police by telling them that an unknown assailant had killed her husband. But during the investigation, police suspicions deepened when it became clear that there were contradictions between her statements and the circumstances of the crime, according to the Associated Press.
During interrogation, Romli Bai revealed that she hid the truth because she feared that her in-laws would kill her if they discovered her role in the murder, he said.
According to Segal, the couple has nine children, six daughters and three sons, ranging in age from two and a half to 16 years old.
