The CJP’s protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi entered its 25th day on Wednesday. Wangchuk, an education and climate activist, joined the demonstration on June 28 and began an indefinite hunger strike at the site in support of the CJP’s action.
Sonam Wangchuk’s health status update
CJP founder Abhijit Debaki has been sharing daily updates on Wangchuk’s health since the strike began.
In one such update on Tuesday, the CJP founder said the activist had begun to lose muscle mass and was experiencing severe pain, but he still refused to resign.
Wangchuk has lost more than 8.4kg since he began his massive strike, Debke said. He added that his blood pressure had dropped to 109/70, as of Tuesday.

CJP protests enter day 25, ‘Chalo Sansad’ rally on July 20
The Cockroach Janta Party’s protest entered its 25th day on Wednesday, while Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike entered its 18th day.
The CJP demands Pradhan’s resignation $1 crore compensation to the families of students who died by suicide due to alleged examination violations.
Intensifying its pressure on the government, the CJP also announced a ‘Chalo Sansad’ rally on July 20, the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament, and urged its supporters to register their participation through a missed call campaign.

“Today, on the thirteenth day of my fast, I don’t feel as energetic as I did yesterday. I feel a little tired. It happens – some days are better and others are not,” he said.
Wangchuk thanked people for supporting the movement on social media, and said he was disappointed by two types of comments.
“Many people call me a Gandhi of the 21st century or a modern Gandhi. Others call me a hero. These comments make me feel uncomfortable. I am neither Gandhi nor a hero. I am just an ordinary citizen who tried to fulfill his responsibilities,” he said.

Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike Live: “3 Idiots” actor Umi Vaidya on Tuesday urged people to pay attention to the deteriorating health of Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike since June 28, saying he does not want the activist to die. Notably, Wangchuk inspired Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’ character Phonsukh Wangdu.
Vaidya, who essayed the fan-favorite role of Chatur “Silencer” Ramalingam in the 2009 Rajkumar Hirani film, shared a video on his X handle to draw people’s attention to Wangchuk’s situation.
“I don’t want him to die. Hello you idiots, Bishana? I’m Umi Vidya, Chatur from 3 Idiots. I have an important message for you. I don’t do this very often, so please listen,” he said in the video.
Vidya then stated that Khan Phonsukh Wangdu’s character was inspired by Wangchuk, describing him as “humble” and “an impressive person.”
“I suggest you go look for him and see what he is up to because he is now on a long hunger strike, lasting over several weeks, and his blood sugar has dropped dramatically.
“I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, and I don’t know if the media is reporting this, but this is a very important thing… Why is he on a hunger strike? He has some issues with the education system in India… Whether you agree with him or not, I don’t want him to die,” the actor said.

Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike Live: Veteran actress Zeenat Aman on Tuesday appealed to the Center to open a dialogue with Wangchuk, saying India should not “sit and watch the sacrifice of one of its greatest minds”.
In an Instagram post, she said the government should hold “peaceful” talks with Wangchuk because it is about “the future of the whole of India.”
“We must not become a society that sits back and watches the sacrifice of one of its greatest minds. India has a long history of peaceful protest; those who exercise power have an obligation to counter such protest with peaceful dialogue,” she wrote.
“With regard to Mr. Wangchuk’s wishes, I appeal to the Indian government to open a dialogue on this issue that concerns the future of the entire India,” she added.

Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike Live: Wangchuk is not the only one on hunger strike in the protest led by the CJP, founded by Abhijit Debaki.
Student activists also went on a parallel hunger strike for the same period. At least four of them belong to the All India Students Association (AISA).
One of them had to be hospitalized Monday due to hypovolemic shock, an emergency caused by severe blood or fluid loss that can affect the heart. Identified as Deepak, he was discharged from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by AISA, Deepak’s heartbeat fluctuated while he was under observation, after which doctors conducted medical tests. The electrocardiogram was normal, and his pulse rate stabilized before discharge.
