A rare look at the Vichy regime and French collaboration with the Nazis, Marie’s film is inspired by the story of his great-grandfather. The film takes place in 1940, and tells the story of Henri Marie (played by… Anatomy of a fall Actor Swan Arlaud) trying to get closer to the new regime.

In his review of Hollywood ReporterCritic Jordan Mintzer described the film as “a searing new look at wartime fascism.” He highlighted Marie’s modern approach to the material, which “on the surface looks like an antique but feels more contemporary, like an indie film in which everyone is wearing three-piece suits and vintage hairstyles, yet they act pretty much the way people act now. The film feels fresh and funky, as if someone went back to 1940 with an iPhone and made a record, chronicling the dark years of far-right obedience and moral decadence.”
