Quote of the Day by Rishi Sunak: “The greatest sacrifice I have made is that I have been a terrible husband and father these past two years.”

When Rishi Sunak revealed the greatest sacrifices he had to make for his job before becoming Prime Minister.

Before becoming US Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak revealed the cost the politician had to secretly pay – by removing family from the top priority for the sake of the people and the party. In August 2022, during the final high-stakes campaigning for the Tory leadership race at Wembley, Rishi Sunak revealed that the greatest sacrifice he had made was becoming a terrible husband and father. In early 2020, Sunak was moved from relative political obscurity to the role of Chancellor of the Exchequer – just weeks before the UK was paralyzed by the global Covid-19 pandemic.Sunak had to dive into immediate crisis management, designing the multi-billion-pound furlough scheme, negotiating emergency economic bailouts and waging the intense round-the-clock policy war of Downing Street.

This pressure cooker has not cooled down; It led directly to the collapse of Boris Johnson’s government, followed by an exhausting, multi-month leadership campaign against Liz Truss. At the event, Sunak spoke extensively about his family. “This final election campaign has special significance for me because the two people who inspired me to enter public service are here tonight: my mother and my father,” he said.“It was their example of service and what they did for people that inspired me to enter politics.

Mom and Dad, thank you for sacrificing and always striving to provide a better life for your children than you had. And thank you for teaching me that with hard work, faith, and the love of your family, there are no limits to what anyone can achieve in our great country.”What is the greatest sacrifice that must be made in the race to become the first non-white Prime Minister of the United Kingdom? Sunak was asked at the event. “The greatest sacrifice I’ve made is that I’ve been a terrible husband and father these past two years, it’s that simpleHe said: This is one of the most prominent statements of the former Prime Minister.

This showed the family man that Sunak was, but also how he chose to put his job before his family in the UK.“This is a very difficult thing for me because I love my children so much, I love my wife so much, and unfortunately, I haven’t been able to be as present in their lives at all in the last few years as I would have liked,” he said.“But that’s because I think it’s a huge privilege to have these jobs. I care deeply about our country and I think I can offer something that will benefit millions of people, so that’s why I do it and I’m really lucky to have their support as I do,” he added.Sunak, born to Punjabi Hindu parents from East Africa who immigrated to the UK in the late 1960s, was the eldest of three siblings. His father, Yashveer, was a busy family doctor in the NHS, and his mother, Usha, ran Sunak Pharmacy, a local chemist’s shop in Southampton. Sunak met his wife Akshata Murty in 2004 while they were studying for an MBA at Stanford University in the US.

They married in 2009 in a two-day ceremony in Bengaluru, India.
