Two Pakistani nationals – a woman married to an Indian national and their Pakistani-born son – were arrested in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapura district after an investigation found that they obtained a ration card and a voter ID card by concealing facts related to their nationality, police told news agency PTI on Sunday.
The family represents a mixed nationality status as the woman’s husband, Muhammad Ayub Khan, is an Indian citizen from Baghipally, while three of the couple’s four children are Indian citizens. However, their son Muhammad Fardeen was born in Pakistan and is a Pakistani citizen along with his mother Farah Naz. The family is currently residing in Bagipalli.
Farah Naz and Fardeen have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, the Foreigners Act and the Representation of the People Act. Further investigations are underway, Chikkaballapura Superintendent of Police Kushal Choksi said in a statement.
“We have received reliable information that Farah Naz and her son Muhammad Fardeen, both Pakistani citizens, have been given a ration card and a voter ID card,” the SP said.
A Pakistani child and three Indians
According to the police statement, Ayub Khan, a Bajipally national who was working in the United Arab Emirates, married Farah Naz, a Pakistani national, there. The couple has four children, one of whom was born Muhammad Fardeen in Pakistan.
After Chikkaballapura police sought clarification, the deputy commissioner verified the records and canceled the ration card, saying it was obtained by withholding material facts related to nationality, the statement said. She added that the voter ID card has also been canceled by the relevant authority.
Based on a complaint filed by Governor Bajipalli, a criminal case was registered against Naz and Vardeen. “The accused have been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing,” the SP said.
