The French collaboration with Netflix is already bearing fruit.
French commercial broadcaster TF1 said it saw record streaming numbers just three weeks after its new carriage deal with Netflix. The deal, which took effect last month, sees Netflix in France stream live and on-demand content from TF1 and its on-demand platform TF1+.

In the first week of the collaboration between TF1 and Netflix, the number of unique daily streams of TF1 shows jumped by 16 percent, the company said, noting that many of the network’s titles were appearing on Netflix’s most-watched lists in the region.
“We achieved our audience’s goals [for the Netflix deal]“A timeframe of 18 months was set, in less than three weeks,” said Rudolf Bellmer, CEO of TF1, in a statement. “This strong start underscores the value of this unprecedented partnership and the audience’s appetite for our content.”
TF1 said its ad sales on its Netflix shows were “excellent” and comparable to those on TF1+, but did not provide detailed figures.
The TF1 deal marks the first time Netflix has teamed up with a national free-to-air broadcaster. The collaboration is being looked at as a potential model for other regions and streamers. Amazon Prime Video has signed similar carriage deals in France with public broadcaster France Télévisions and trade group M6, and in Spain with national public broadcaster RTVE.
The TF1 model, which combines forces with global broadcasters rather than trying to compete with them head-to-head, is being touted as an alternative to the wave of broadcast consolidation sweeping Europe, most notably Comcast’s Sky’s $2.1 billion deal to acquire Britain’s ITV, which was announced on Monday.
