‘I made a mistake’: Jayaram breaks silence on ‘Twenty:20’ trolls; Explains his connection with Tamil Nadu

Actor Jayaram has finally addressed the social media surrounding his previous statements about the climax of the shoot of the multi-starrer film ‘Twenty:20’. Over the past few months, clips from two old interviews have surfaced online, with many users pointing out that the actor gave different explanations for where he went during the film’s climax schedule. In an interview, Jayaram said that he traveled to celebrate Diwali. In another, he mentioned that he had gone to Sabarimala. The contradictory statements led to severe trolling against the actor on social media.

Jayaram says he can’t blame people

Speaking to Vanitha about the issue, Jayaram admitted that he had made a mistake and explained that the passage of time had made it difficult for him to remember the exact sequence of events. He said: I can’t blame people, I made a mistake in what I said.

The accident happened 15 to 20 years ago. To be honest, I don’t even remember it clearly now. I honestly don’t remember whether I went to Madras or somewhere else. I even asked the people who were involved in that incident, and they don’t remember either. I stayed there for about five or six days. This happened 15 to 20 years ago. These memory lapses probably come with age.

Explain its relationship to Tamil Nadu

Jayaram also spoke about his close association with Tamil Nadu.

The actor explained that his family background naturally connects him with both Kerala and Tamil Nadu.He said, “My father is from Palakkad and my mother is from Kumbakonam. My father got a job in Perumbavoor, so our family moved there. My grandfather was also from Perumbavoor. I was born, brought up and educated there. But since my mother was not fluent in Malayalam, I always spoke to her in Tamil. Till the day she died, I spoke to her only in Tamil.”

Even now, I have many relatives there. I visit our family temple once a year.

I didn’t invent anything.”

Living in Chennai for more than three decades

Jayaram also noted that his career journey eventually led him to settle in Chennai, where he lived for many years. According to the actor, this experience naturally became an important part of his identity. He explained: “I have been living in Madras (Chennai) for 32 years. I moved there because of my job and settled there. That’s how I became a resident of Chennai. Our house in Perumbavoor is still there. But if someone asks me whether I am from here or there, what should I say? There are many people from Kerala who work in Delhi, Mumbai or Dubai for years. If someone has worked in Delhi for decades, can he simply say that he is from Delhi?”On the work front, Jayaram’s latest film is ‘Parimala and Co’.
