Indian police announced on Wednesday that a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed in a joint security operation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting took place in Chanpura area of Shopian district.

Officials did not immediately reveal the identity of the dead terrorist. However, sources told HT that the militant killed in the encounter has been identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba activist, Zakir Jania.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), officials said.
Giving details of the operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a post on X, “A Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was neutralized by Special Operations Group Shopian, in a joint operation, along with RR forces and CRPF.”
The police also issued a stern warning to militants operating in the area, adding: “You can run, but you cannot hide!”
According to a PTI report, security forces launched a search operation in a dense grove in Memandur area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on July 3. The operation covered seven villages in the area and was aimed at tracking down militants believed to be hiding there.
