Liz Meriwether has been commissioned to write the screenplay for the upcoming Britney Spears biopic. The acclaimed screenwriter and television creator will work alongside director John M.

Cho and producer Marc Platt in the feature film adaptation, which is based on the Grammy Award-winning singer’s best-selling memoir.According to Variety, the news was announced as part of the project’s ongoing development at Universal Pictures. In August 2024, the studio acquired the rights to Spears’ memoir with Cho and Platt attached to shepherd the feature into production. Spears herself shared news of the “secret project” on social media, expressing confidence in the producers working on her story and encouraging fans to stay tuned for additional announcements about the film.

Meriwether’s screenplay will be based on the film The Woman in Me, which was released in October 2023. The memoir was a huge commercial success, selling 1.1 million copies within its first week of release. The audiobook version, narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams and featuring an introduction from Spears herself, became the fastest-selling audiobook in the history of a major publishing house.
