The industry’s box office was down 20 percent last week due to the holiday week and fewer productions being shown.
Maya Rudolph played her final performance in Oh Mary! On Sunday, the show sent a total of $1.5 million at the box office.
This made the play the fifth highest-grossing show of the week, as it had the highest average ticket price on Broadway at $214, coming in just second place. MJWhich brought in $1.6 million. Meg Stalter took over from Rudolph on July 6.
Hamilton It topped the box office with $2.1 million, followed by… The lion king In the amount of $1.87 million and Death of a salesman With $1.9 million, the play brought it in over seven performances. But overall, the industry took a hit due to the Fourth of July holiday, as well as the closure of three productions the week before. This resulted in an industry-wide box office decline of 20 percent from the previous week and an attendance decline of 11 percent.
Amid the holiday week and some scheduled absences, all 32 productions currently running saw box office declines last week, with Cats: Jellicle Ball, Shmagadoon, The Lost Boys and The Rocky Horror Show They all see drops of more than $200,000.
Last week also saw Mariska Hargitay’s final performance Everything is great. The play grossed $1.1 million in Hargitay’s final week across seven performances instead of the usual eight. (The highest week of its run was the week ending June 28, when the play brought in $1.3 million.) Capacity remained high at 99 percent. Tracee Ellis Ross takes over the role on Tuesday.
