A woman was murdered in Rajasthan by her daughter, who police claim planned the crime to inherit the family property and get a government job on compassionate grounds. The accused allegedly tried to make the murder look like a traffic accident to avoid suspicion.

The accused, Ayushi, 23 years old, was arrested along with six others, including her uncle and cousin, in connection with this case. PTI news agency reported that another accused absconded.

According to police, 45-year-old Neeraj Sharma, a resident of Ravindra Nagar in Pratap Nagar, died on July 3 after she was hit by a speeding Scorpio car.

The brother’s complaint changes the investigation

The case took a turn after the victim’s brother, Rakesh, filed a complaint alleging foul play, naming his niece and others in the FIR.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern) Ranjita Sharma said, according to what the news agency reported: “During the investigation, it was found that the death was not accidental but a pre-planned murder. The accused hired assailants to kill the woman and tried to present it as a road accident.”

Police said Neeraj Sharma was given a court clerkship on compassionate grounds after the death of her husband, Vijay Kumar Sharma, about a year ago.

According to investigators, Ayushi wanted the job for herself.

“The accused said in her statement that she asked her mother to let her take over the job after her father died, but her mother took over the job instead, which led to tension,” the officer said.

Police alleged that Ayushi then conspired with her uncle and cousin to eliminate her mother so that she could claim the government job and family property.

Police said seven accused have been arrested in the case, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspect.

Similar incident in Ranchi

Earlier in April, police detained a minor girl and arrested two people, including her “boyfriend” from Gaya in Bihar, for allegedly killing her 50-year-old mother for not donating money in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district.

The matter was revealed on April 27, three days after the incident. A senior police officer said that the deceased was Nahida Parveen, a resident of Manitoula within the confines of Duranda Police Station.

City SP Paras Rana said that a written complaint in this regard was filed by the victim’s brother-in-law on April 26, in which he stated that the matter seemed suspicious.

“We arrested two people from Gaya district in Bihar, one of them the boyfriend of the victim’s 17-year-old adopted daughter, and arrested the girl. During interrogation, the girl confessed to the crime, saying that she had killed her mother after colluding with her boyfriend Arbaaz Khan and his three friends. She killed her mother when the victim refused to give her money,” Rana told reporters.
