Taking to X, Ray posted a handwritten letter on

“There has been a lot of speculation regarding the theft that occurred while counting donations from the donation box at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex since June 6, 2026, and I have personally faced many unfair allegations. I have chosen to remain silent because, as per the wishes of the Trust, the Special Investigation Team has submitted its preliminary report for verification. This report has now been made public,” the letter written in Hindi said.

Rai urged everyone to wait for the final decision of the special court, saying that “appropriate responses” should be given “only after the investigation is over.”

“Although the report was initially confidential, everyone must wait for the final decision of the Special Investigation Team. After the investigation is completed, appropriate responses must be given to all misinformation and misconceptions being spread. The truth will come out in due course,” Rai added.

“I have been serving in Ayodhya through the organization since October 1991. My public life for nearly 45 years has been an open book, wherever I have worked. I respectfully bow before the truth,” he said.

Changes in movement

The Ram Temple Trust on Monday accepted the resignations of Champat Rai as general secretary and Anil Mishra as trustee, sacked director Gopal Rao and announced a three-member committee to appoint a chief executive as it seeks to restore its image after widespread allegations of theft of donations.

“The SIT’s initial report identified eight individuals against whom the Foundation had filed cases, leading to arrests. Following the report, General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra resigned on ethical grounds, which the Foundation accepted. Additionally, the Foundation has decided to remove Gopal Nagarakati from the list of special invited members,” a statement issued by the Foundation in Hindi said.

The meeting at the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya – which was attended in person by seven members of the trust – and two others virtually – began at around 3.15 pm and concluded at 6.30 pm.

Champat Rai and Anil Mishra did not attend the meeting.

The corporation also announced the formation of a three-member committee to select the CEO, namely Justice (Retd) Permod Kohli, Retired Army Lt. Gen. Vishnukant Chaturvedi and Suresh Hawari.

This is the biggest fallout yet from allegations of irregularities in donations to the Ram temple that surfaced last month and have had profound religious and political ramifications, especially in Uttar Pradesh, where assembly elections are expected to be held early next year.
