When working with legendary director Christopher Nolan, even professionals like Zendaya get nervous.
During a recent interview with Happy, sad, confused Podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked the Emmy winner for more context on what led to her messing up her lines on the first day of filming OdysseyBecause that doesn’t sound like something Zendaya would do.
Drama The actress admitted that working on Nolan’s set for the first time was indeed “nerve-racking,” but she was also struggling from the freezing conditions as they were shooting that day.
“That’s the thing. I had my lines and I wanted to get them down. I think I upset myself a little bit,” Zendaya explained. “It was particularly cold. …It was in Iceland. My mouth was frozen. Oh, nothing comes out. My mouth doesn’t move. Literally, he came out like, “Blah blah blah.” Very embarrassing.
She continued, “But I will say, I think just showing up in any situation like that…it was such a joy and a gift to be able to share scenes with people that I’ve admired for so long. A part of you has to kind of split. Well, lock yourself in; we’re working. But I was so touched and excited to be there that I wanted to do my best.”
in Odysseybased on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, Zendaya plays the Greek goddess Athena. The film follows King Odysseus’s (Matt Damon) dangerous journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War, including battles with mythical creatures, as he attempts to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland).
The film, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Robert Pattinson, will hit theaters on July 17.
