Tyler Robinson’s preliminary hearing in the Charlie Kirk murder case began under tight security, with the court deciding whether there was enough evidence for a trial. I’m not afraid of these demons. We will prevail,” taking a more defiant public stance as the case continued.

The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of shooting Charlie Kirk, began under tight security, with a very different public reaction from those closest to the late conservative activist.

While Kirk’s family asked for privacy as legal proceedings began, commentator Candace Owens posted a defiant message, promising to continue what she described as Kirk’s fight.

The hearing will determine whether the prosecution has presented enough evidence to begin a trial in the case.

The five-day preliminary hearing opened inside a tightly secured courtroom with limited public access and a large law enforcement presence due to national interest in the case.

The hearing is not intended to determine the guilt or innocence of Tyler Robinson. Instead, the judge will determine whether prosecutors have determined probable cause to proceed with the case.

Before giving testimony, Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erica Kirk, issued a statement on behalf of the family, explaining the emotional impact of returning to court.“All of the court proceedings serve as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably affected our lives and the lives of his children.”

She confirmed that she and Charlie Kirk’s parents would attend the proceedings, while avoiding further public comment.“Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not comment further at this time. We ask for continued privacy.”Their statement reflects a desire to allow the judicial process to continue without further public debate while they continue to mourn their loss.

Candace Owens responds as Tyler Robinson’s case moves forward

Candace Owens, a longtime political ally of Charlie Kirk, responded separately with a markedly different message.

Rather than focusing on privacy, Owens framed the court proceedings as part of a broader ideological struggle.

I wrote on X:“One more battle, Charlie. I’m not afraid of these demons. We will win.”Her post quickly gained attention online, highlighting the contrast between the Kirk family’s restrictive approach and Owens’ show of public defiance.Meanwhile, prosecutors continue to pursue multiple charges against Robinson, including first-degree murder.

According to court filings, investigators claim the attack was premeditated and cited evidence including a handwritten note, text messages and a recovered 98 Mauser rifle. Robinson has not pleaded guilty, and the allegations remain unproven as legal proceedings continue. The standard for a preliminary hearing is much lower than a trial, the lawyers said. Former prosecutor Mark Corris noted that prosecutors don’t have to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, just probable cause. Judge Graf will decide whether the evidence presented is sufficient to allow the case to proceed to a full jury trial where the allegations will be evaluated according to the much higher criminal standards.
