All schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed for the day in view of the ‘orange’ rainfall warning issued in the city on Tuesday, July 7. The development comes at a time when heavy rains, thunderstorms and waterlogging are ravaging Mumbai, affecting daily life.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that educational institutions have been declared holiday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, the news agency reported. PTI.
A similar measure was taken the previous day, when all government, private and civic schools and colleges remained closed. The civic body also urged people not to go out unless absolutely necessary and to call the 1916 helpline in case of any emergency.
Work from home guidance in mumbai
In a directive on Monday, the BMC said that government and private offices will function as usual.
However, working from home (WFH) guidelines for private offices were issued later the same day. Moreover, non-essential government offices have been ordered to observe half a day in Mumbai.
The directive was issued by the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) as heavy rains disrupted connectivity in the city.

Local services were halted on Monday between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup on the slow line towards CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) due to a piece of plastic stuck in the overhead equipment, news agency ANI reported. Moreover, train services between Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar were also halted.
Heavy to very heavy rain fell in and around Mumbai, also causing floods in parts of Maharashtra, such as Raigad and Palghar.
“Many places in Mumbai received heavy to very heavy rainfall, with very heavy rainfall at isolated places and on the ghat areas. Pune, Raigad and Palghar districts also received very heavy rainfall. Lonavala received the highest rainfall today at 670 mm,” an IMD scientist told ANI.
