Schools and colleges remain closed

All government, private and civic schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Tuesday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for heavy rain and gusty winds across the city.

In a statement issued late Monday night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a holiday for all educational institutions as a precautionary measure, citing IMD’s expectations and the need to ensure the safety of students.

Maharashtra rains live: Three members of a family were killed after a landslide triggered by the collapse of part of Visapur Fort buried their house in Maval tehsil area of ​​Pune district on Monday. The victims were identified as Nandu Tikoni, Molly Tikoni and Anita Nandu Tikoni.

The tragedy was among several rain-related incidents reported in Pune district, where heavy rains claimed four lives on Monday. In two separate incidents, two people were swept away by streams of water, while another person died in a wall collapse.

Maharashtra rains live: Amid cloudburst warning for Nashik on July 7, Nashik Rural Police urged tourists to avoid visiting the area and announced extensive precautionary measures.

Superintendent of Police Dr DS Swamy said checkpoints would be set up in Igatpuri, Wadivarhi and Trimbakeshwar to restrict movement to vulnerable areas. Police personnel will also be deployed at waterfalls, low-lying areas and bridges prone to floods to prevent accidents and ensure rapid response to emergency situations.

He added that as per the orders issued by the district magistrate, Trimbakeshwar and Vani temples will remain closed on Tuesday.
