The gods already walk among us. Odyssey He has arrived.

London’s Leicester Square was on fire on Monday evening when Christopher Nolan brought his highly anticipated summer blockbuster to its world premiere.

It was a turf event for many of the actors, including Brits Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Mia Goth. They were joined by Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie and Travis Scott, who walked the sand carpet as screaming fans climbed to catch a glimpse of the star-studded lineup. The Trojan Horse was flying over the Odeon Lux Theater.

“There’s nothing like a London premiere,” Nolan began as he took to the stage before the IMAX screening. “I just want to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of you guys for the amazing work that this audience will be watching,” he told the actors before turning to the audience. “You are the first audience in the world to see this film. This is the world premiere – of the beautiful 70mm film – so be gentle.”

“I grew up watching films here, and I come to Leicester Square, I watch films, not from rich people’s balconies, but from booths,” he continued, drawing cheers from the audience, “and I really dream of making a film one day that will fill the screen. So to be here in such magical circumstances with all of you celebrating the work of so many people who have come together to make a film.” Odyssey It’s really incredible.

The Englishman then alluded to the country’s exciting late-night World Cup clash with Mexico last night, in which fans were up until 4am: “For all my fellow England fans who didn’t get much sleep last night, try not to snore in the quiet parts. It’s Odyssey. There are no quiet parts! ”

Nolan concluded his speech by thanking the cast and “thousands” of crew members who worked on the film, as well as NBCUniversal President Donna Langley. He described making the film as “the thrill of a lifetime”.

In theaters July 17 Odyssey It tells the story of the long, torturous, and fantastical journey of the Greek hero Odysseus home after the Trojan War, returning to the kingdom of Ithaca to rescue his wife and son. The film stars Damon in the lead role, and also features Odysseus’ son, Telemachus (Netherlands); Odysseus’s wife, Penelope (Hathaway); the nymph Calypso (Theron); Penelope’s weeping suitor, Antoninus (Pattinson), seeks to marry the queen and become ruler of Ithaca. The film also features Odysseus’ servant Eumaeus (John Leguizamo) and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, the Greek king of Sparta and brother of Agamemnon.

It is Nolan’s first film since 2023 Oppenheimerwhich won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and became the British director’s third highest-grossing film at the box office, earning $971 million. It’s safe to say the weight was on Nolan’s shoulders when he first appeared Odyssey – Even though he probably won’t feel anything – it’s huge. Does he have another critical and commercially acclaimed hit on his hands?

Hype about quality The film only grew when Universal decided to cancel word-of-mouth (aka influencers) pitches. Instead, after tonight’s premiere in London, Odyssey The film will open to critics, indicating a lot of confidence in the studio.
