Mumbai is likely to witness another day of heavy monsoon rains on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rains at a few places, with very heavy rains at isolated locations.
Precipitation is considered very likely, indicating a high possibility of heavy rain during the day.
The forecast comes after heavy rains over the weekend disrupted normal life across the city, causing waterlogging, traffic jams and disrupting transportation. Active monsoon conditions are expected to continue over the Konkan region, with Mumbai remaining under the influence of a strong monsoon wave, the IMD said.

Thane, Palghar weather forecast
The neighboring state of Thane is also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains at a few places, with very heavy rains occurring at isolated locations on Monday. The IMD has rated the likelihood of rainfall as very likely, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding, waterlogging and disruption of road transport in vulnerable areas.
In Palghar, the Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at some places on July 6. While the region is not expected to see the “extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places” mentioned in Sunday’s forecast, heavy rain is still considered very likely, and authorities are expected to remain on alert for flooding and other rain-related incidents.
According to IMD’s impact-based forecast, heavy rains could lead to inundation of low-lying areas, traffic congestion, disruption of rail, road and air services, rough sea conditions along the coast, and localized outages of power and civil services. Residents have been advised to avoid non-essential travel, stay away from vulnerable structures and monitor official weather updates.
Schools and colleges are closed
The civic administration has declared a holiday for all government, private and civic schools and colleges in Mumbai on Monday in view of the ‘orange alert’ for heavy rains, officials said.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement on Sunday evening that the decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of students.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the city, predicting heavy rain and gusty winds.
The statement said that government and private offices will operate as usual, and urged citizens not to leave their homes except when necessary.
Mumbai and its surrounding areas have witnessed extremely heavy rains over the past few days, leading to water-logged streets and tree-tumbling accidents, killing three people, including a schoolboy, since June 30.
