An 11-foot cobra has been rescued after a tense encounter, showing how trained rescuers handle one of the world's most dangerous snakes without harming it.

Chilling encounter: saving a giant king cobra from a school

An 11-foot cobra that became trapped inside the front bumper of a parked truck has been safely rescued after a tense four-hour operation in Thailand, showing the skill and patience needed to handle one of the world’s most dangerous snakes without harming it.The incident occurred on February 6 in Phang Nga after emergency responders were called to a school where the giant crocodile became stuck deep in the front bumper of the truck.Footage from the rescue operation, quoted from South China Morning PostA video clip showed two experienced snake handlers carefully working the front of the car as the cobra writhed, attacked and struck them repeatedly. According to the newspaper, the snake “slipped inside to take a nap.”Freeing the cobra proved no easy feat. She pushed herself so deep into the bumper that rescuers couldn’t quickly remove her. Instead, they spent about four hours working carefully to extract the animal while avoiding injury to the snake and themselves.

The snake killed rescuers after it was released

The process became more difficult once the Cobra finally got out of the truck.Instead of retreating, the clearly disturbed snake repeatedly attacked rescuers, forcing them to remain alert throughout the rescue.

Despite the constant strikes, the workers remained calm and used specialized equipment to safely control the situation before the cobra was secured. The rescue demonstrated the meticulous approach trained wildlife responders take when dealing with venomous animals. Rather than harm the snake, the team focused on removing it safely from the vehicle while minimizing the risk to everyone involved. The king cobra is not only exceptionally large but also highly venomous.

They are known to be the longest venomous snake species in the world, making rescues involving reptiles particularly dangerous.

A similar rescue operation took place at an Indian school last year

The rescue operation in Thailand repeats another high-profile royal cobra operation that took place in India last year.On April 30, a giant cobra was discovered inside a classroom at SSD Higher Secondary School in Odisha’s Gajapati district after it was seen moving around the school compound for several days.School staff moved quickly after seeing the snake inside. They locked the classroom door to prevent him from escaping and immediately called trained rescuers from Snake Helpline.Rescue members Ramachandra Sahu and Jagannath Sahu arrived at the school and found the cobra in a defensive position, emitting a loud warning hiss.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the school to watch rescuers safely capture the crocodile without causing any harm to it.After the operation, the king cobra was handed over to local forest officials before being released into a nearby forest. Wildlife authorities later confirmed that the snake was healthy and had been safely returned to its natural habitat.Fortunately, the incident occurred after school hours, meaning there were no students or teachers inside the building.

The quick actions of school staff and the rescue team prevented a much more dangerous situation.

The longest venomous snake in the world

king cobra (Ophiophagus hanna) is widely considered one of the most dangerous snakes in the world.Although adults are typically 10 to 15 feet long, some rare individuals can reach about 20 feet long. Despite its common name, the king cobra is not a true cobra but belongs to the orabi family. This species is native to South and Southeast Asia, where it inhabits tropical evergreen forests, bamboo forests, and, in some cases, agricultural areas close to rainforests. Its neurotoxin can affect the nervous system and cause paralysis and respiratory failure if left untreated. However, wildlife experts say king cobras generally avoid humans and only attack when they feel threatened or cornered.

Wildlife is moving into human space

The rescues in Thailand and India also reflect a broader pattern of wildlife increasingly appearing in man-made environments.Schools, roads, parked vehicles and other developed areas can become temporary shelters for animals seeking safety or suitable hiding places. As forests shrink or become fragmented, encounters between humans and wildlife become more frequent, increasing risks to both.Thailand records treatment for about 7,000 snake bites annually, with cobras causing dozens of deaths. Incidents involving large venomous snakes underscore the importance of trained rescue teams, whose work helps protect communities and wildlife. The dramatic rescue in Thailand also sparked reactions from Facebook users, many of whom were amazed at the size of the snake and the patience shown by its handlers.
