Who owns Hera Pheri 3? Akshay Kumar's production house issues public notice?

Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films LLP has issued a public notice demanding exclusive global rights to Hera Pheri 3, warning against dealing with a third party. This comes amid Priyadarshan’s exit from his position as director, after he was accused of repeated insults from producer Feroz Nadiadwala. The film is set to reunite Akshay, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal.

The rights row for “Hera Pheri 3” has taken a new turn. Cape of Good Films LLP, the production house owned by Akshay Kumar, issued a public notice in the July 4, 2026 edition of trade magazine Complete Cinema, stating that it alone has the exclusive rights to produce and commercially exploit the film.

The notice also warns members of the film trade and other companies against entering into agreements with any third party over the rights to “Hera Pheri 3” without the company’s approval.

Public notice to industry stakeholders

The public notice, a screenshot shared by Akshay Kumar’s fan club, was reported by Bollywood Hungama. It addresses the general public as well as stakeholders across the Indian film industry, including distributors, exhibitors, cinema chains, OTT platforms, TV broadcasters, digital platforms, advertisers, licensees, licensees, aggregators, syndicates and other interested parties.

The notice read: “Notice is hereby given to the public in general, and to the Indian film trade in particular, including but not limited to all distributors, exhibitors, cinema chains, OTT platforms, streaming platforms, TV broadcasters, digital platforms, advertisers, licensors, licensors, aggregators, syndicators and all other persons and entities concerned, that Cape of Good Films LLP is the sole and exclusive holder of an irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license to produce, distribute and market and exploit, commercialize and otherwise deal with the motion picture currently titled “Hera Pheri 3” (the “Film”), as well as all rights therein, across all modes, media, platforms, technologies and formats, whether now known or hereafter devised.

It also states that “All persons and entities are hereby invited to acknowledge and respect the above rights of Cape of Good Films LLP and are further cautioned not to enter into any arrangement, transaction, negotiation, representation or dealing with any third party claiming rights in or in relation to the Film without the prior written permission of Cape of Good Films LLP.”

The notice also includes a legal warning stating, “Any person who acts contrary to this notice does so at his or her own risk, and Cape of Good Films LLP reserves all rights and remedies available at law and in equity.”

PriyadarshanExit and allegations against Feroz Nadiadwala

This public notice arrives amid ongoing uncertainty over the fate of Hera Pheri 3. The film has been in the news in recent weeks after director Priyadarshan announced that he would be stepping away from directing the highly anticipated comedy. He also leveled serious allegations against producer Feroz Nadiadwala, alleging that he was repeatedly insulted during their interactions. The director added that he believes ‘Hera Pheri 3’ could have become one of the biggest film franchises in India if he had been at the helm.

Priyadarshan recalls being insulted by Feroz Nadiadwala

In a conversation with Mid-Day, Priyadarshan shared details of one such episode, saying, “Feroze told Akshay, ‘You have the right to make Hera Pheri 3, but never do it with Priyadarshan. This is my only request.” He insulted me many times. He told me that my version of Heera Pheri (2000) looked like a poor man’s version, and that he had to edit my five-hour film. I initially agreed to do the third part with Akshay because I thought I could make one of the biggest franchises in this country.

If I had taken him out, I would have made him bigger than Dhurandhar. Akshay, Sunil and Paresh asked me to make Hera Pheri 3. When I narrated the story to them, they were all excited.

Hera Pheri 3’s turbulent journey so far

‘Hera Pheri 3’ was initially set to reunite the beloved trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, with Priyadarshan at the helm. But since then, the project has faced multiple obstacles. Paresh Rawal exited the film briefly in May 2025 before returning to the cast, and the project continued to be embroiled in legal disputes.
