Indian student drowns in Germany; Four doubted

Mangaluru: An Indian student from Marakada-Kunjathpil in Mangaluru, who was pursuing BBA in Germany, died in a suspected drowning in Leipzig on Thursday.The martyr was identified as Muhammad Aniz Abu Bakr, 21 years old.

Four students, including two Indians, were detained by police for questioning.Anez was a third-semester BBA student at Rann Educational Institute in Halle. He had moved to Germany about 18 months ago after completing his pre-university education in Mangaluru. His father, Abu Bakr Siddiq, works in Saudi Arabia.PA Hameed Padubidri, a pro bono lawyer who is coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Berlin to facilitate the return of Anez’s remains to Mangaluru, said Anez went on a trip with classmates and friends on Thursday morning.The group later visited a water entertainment area near the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Emergency workers were called to the Landauer Bridge area, where Anez’s body was recovered, late Thursday afternoon.
