Enola Holmes and Lord Tewkesbury have captured audiences’ attention with the new installment of the popular series, taking viewers back to the 19th century with their gripping drama.

As the conspiracy unfolds in colonial Malta, a state of emergency begins with the kidnapping of Sherlock Holmes. Loosely based on parts of history, writer Jack Thorne highlighted that fictionalizing the story played an important role in the creation of the film.

Channeling her inner detective, Enola Holmes discovers the word “Khost” while finding her brother in a hotel room, and connects it to the “Battle of Khost,” which took place during the Anglo-Afghan Wars of the 19th century.

However, unlike “Enola Holmes 2”, which shared the true story of the Match Girls, the third part is loosely based on real events and has been largely fictionalized. “We conceived the story because we felt that if we dealt with the real theft of national treasures by the British Army, we might cause harm, and we didn’t want to do that,” Thorne said in the conversation with Tudom.“The Match Girls Society were happy that we highlighted them and that it led to people looking into them,” Thorne explained of the prequel, adding that he wanted similar colonial stories but with a different approach.

The historical influence was not just limited to the plots, but was deeply ingrained in the characters and cast. Indian Watson. Himesh Patel’s character in the film says: “My father was a soldier too, a loyal servant of the British Raj. He loved the crown, believed in its right to rule India, and I thought he was right to do so. I was a child, and he was my hero.”

Enola Holmes 3, directed by Philip Barantini, revolves around Enola Holmes traveling to Malta, to discover the dark legacy of the British Empire. The cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Partridge, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, and Henry Cavill. The film was released on July 1, 2026, and is streaming on Netflix.
