There are still very few details to emerge about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s big, if still private, wedding this weekend, but one story that has been shared includes girls Creator Lena Dunham, a close friend of the bride, made an apparently divisive joke while giving a speech.
Daily Mail Reports indicate that Dunham gave a speech during the couple’s smaller gathering Thursday night at the Infosys Theater in Madison Square Garden. During that speech, she reportedly joked that “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn,” which caused a series of reactions ranging from gasps to laughter.
Given Kelce’s line of work, the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, there were NFL players in attendance all weekend. Following Dunham’s speech, Swift reportedly called her old friend a genius.
The high-profile couple officially tied the knot in a ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Friday (July 3), surrounded by their family and friends. The ceremony was held at 5 p.m. ET, and the reception is expected to last until 4 a.m. ET Saturday, according to a copy of the city permit. Immediately after the couple’s wedding, heavy rain began to fall in New York, believed to be a sign of good luck.
Both Swift and Kelsey wore custom Christian Dior Haute Couture ensembles, designed by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Dior’s women’s, men’s and couture collections, in collaboration with the bride and groom. It represents Anderson’s first couture wedding dress. They each wore custom Christian Louboutin shoes, which Swift has long been a fan of red bottoms on stage. She finished her look with Cartier jewelry.
Comedian Adam Sandler officiated the wedding. Instead of having a traditional wedding, Swift and Kelsey chose to have their brothers stand by their side during the wedding. Austin Swift was the bride’s man of honor, while Jason Kelsey was best man.
Many guests arrived at Friday’s celebration secretly, and rows of black cars could be seen heading toward a large white tent with black curtains outside the entrance to the arena. The checkpoint offered VIP guests a way to enter the venue without being spotted by some of the crowds gathered outside.
Unsurprisingly, a slew of superstars were spotted arriving at the event including Jack Antonoff, Bradley Cooper, Lena Dunham, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Jessica Chastain, Dakota Johnson, Jason Sudeikis, Benson Boone, Hugh Grant, Kelsea Ballerini, Camila Cabello, Karlie Kloss and Josh Kushner, Ethan Hawke, Zoe Kravitz, Mariska Hargitay and Peter.
