First Lady Melania Trump is pursuing the foster care bill largely outside White House channels and has given Congress a special deadline to pass the bill. The Strengthening the Future Act expands housing, education, and workforce assistance to youth aging out of foster care.

Politico reported that the first lady is working alone to make this mission memorable, and has even given a special deadline to Congress that she wants this bill to get to President Donald Trump’s desk by the August recess.Rep. Jason Smith told Politico that Melania wanted to host a bipartisan roundtable to advance her bill. This wasn’t a great idea because Democrats don’t like her husband, but a bipartisan roundtable was held and Melania explained to lawmakers that only 3 percent of children in foster care would get a college degree from now on.A closed-door meeting was then held where Melania said: “I want this to be on Donald’s desk by the August recess.”Melania’s bill passed the House unanimously, but is still stuck in the Senate, and Melania’s August deadline is fast approaching.Melania Trump has reduced her public appearances and is working for causes she believes inInspired by Melania’s push for the foster care bill, Politico noted how the First Lady has evolved since her first term as she selectively engages on issues she cares about personally.

She does not hesitate to take a different path from her husband. This time, she works mostly behind the scenes, makes fewer public appearances, and doesn’t even travel with her husband.“In addition to foster care legislation, she worked with lawmakers to pass the Take It Down Act. She and her staff have negotiated directly with Russian and Ukrainian officials on the issue of displaced and abducted children, according to the White House, the Russians and the Ukrainians.”

In September, it hosted Cabinet officials and technology CEOs, including Google’s Sundar Pichai and IBM’s Arvind Krishna, to promote the integration of artificial intelligence into children’s education.“In at least one case, the first lady pushed a message she cared about even when it apparently clashed with the White House: Melania Trump called on Congress to call on victims of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse to testify at a time when the broader Trump team was trying to move past the scandal.”Melania has not campaigned for her husband much in 2024, and has rarely been seen traveling with her husband since his return to the White House.Mark Beckman, exclusive senior advisor to the First Lady, said: “Melania is looking forward to achieving more than any First Lady before in history.”
