Mahesh Babu's appearance as Lord Ram in 'Varanasi' creates buzz on the internet; It fuels the anticipation for SS Rajamouli's epic Ramayana sequence

SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ is back in the headlines, this time, after leading man Mahesh Babu’s picture, as Lord Ram’s character has started doing the rounds online.In the picture that appeared on fans’ handles, the actor is seen wearing saffron robes with a bow on his shoulder.

The scene in question appears to be set in the middle of a rural setting. Although it is unclear if the image is an AI interpretation of the film’s photo shoot, it has teased fans about his role as Lord Rama in the upcoming film.The makers have so far only teased Mahesh Babu’s look from the film in a trailer. This picture, believed to be posted by fans, gives a clear look at what the actor might look like in a Lord Rama avatar.

Director Rajamouli had previously revealed that seeing Mahesh Babu in Lord Rama’s avatar gave him “goosebumps”. He also stated that Mahesh has “the charm of Krishna and the calm of Rama”.Another picture that is doing the rounds online has a poster of Mahesh Babu holding a trishul in his hands. Although the photo was shared last year, it has now gone viral after it appeared among the promotional material during Rajamoulis’ fan interactions.

The picture comes amid new interest in ‘Varanasi’ after director SS Rajamouli promoted the film in France. The director had previously confirmed that Mahesh Babu’s film is an independent film and revealed that the audience can expect a 20-30-minute Ramayana, which has been shot in IMAX format.Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is currently in production. Rajamouli recently revealed that the film has around 80 days of shooting before it wraps up and the post-production work begins.The film is scheduled to be released in April 2027.
