NEW DELHI: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday urged countries to identify products that are currently imported but can be manufactured competitively in India.Such efforts will not only reduce dependence on imports and save foreign exchange, but will also strengthen local supply chains and reduce vulnerabilities arising from over-reliance on foreign suppliers, he said. The proposal came during a Board of Trade meeting here.Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, newly appointed members of the Board of Trade, ministers and representatives from states and union territories, export promotion councils, apex chambers of industry and non-official members participated in the meeting.Goyal also urged states, line ministries, EPCs and industry associations to set up export committees, conduct regular communication with exporters and conduct monthly review meetings. The Minister encouraged industries affected by unfair trade practices to contact the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).He stated that the DGTR will support domestic industries facing harm due to dumping or predatory pricing by foreign producers and can provide remedies through anti-dumping measures and safeguards duties. The Minister announced a time-bound 90-day campaign under the districts as the Export Hubs Initiative, covering 120 priority districts across 27 states and union territories.
Supported by 24 regional bodies of the General Directorate of Export and Import and 11 partner agencies, the campaign will focus on measurable results, including new exporter registrations and export value growth, with convergence with the One District One Product initiative, geographical indication products and SME clusters.
