IMD warnings for Uttarakhand state

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Dehradun has issued a heavy rain alert for Rudraprayag till July 4, and the district administration has urged residents to remain alert.

The authorities advised people to avoid rivers, streams and areas prone to landslides, and appealed to residents to follow official warnings during the expected period of heavy rainfall.

The continuing heavy rains also disrupted transportation in parts of the state. Traffic on Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district and along Kedarnath Yatra in Rudraprayag was affected due to debris and stones falling from the hillsides.

Officials said vehicular and pedestrian movement on the Sonprayag-Munkatiya route in Rudraprayag has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

Amid the evolving monsoon situation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reviewed the statewide pre-monsoon mock drill conducted at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Dehradun.

The exercise, which was conducted in all 13 districts, aimed to enhance preparedness for monsoon-related disasters, improve inter-departmental coordination and evaluate the effectiveness of the state’s disaster response mechanism.
