Heavy monsoon rains claimed seven lives in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka on Wednesday, while lightning killed two people in Uttar Pradesh, though landslides, floods and waterlogging disrupted normal life in several states.

Himachal Pradesh reported four deaths due to rain, as heavy rains lashed several parts of the state, including Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala, triggering landslides, rising river levels and disrupting power supplies. A woman from Solan district was killed after she hit a falling boulder near Oat on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, three more deaths were reported in Kangra district, including one death due to electrocution and falling from a height.
The southwest monsoon, which reached Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, covered the entire state by Wednesday.
In Mangaluru, Karnataka state, three members of a family, including two girls, were killed after a rain-triggered landslide destroyed their house in Nagori district early on Wednesday. Three others were rescued after the house was buried under rubble following heavy rains overnight.

Meanwhile, the flood-hit state of Arunachal Pradesh continued relief and rehabilitation efforts.
According to officials, four people died, 21 were injured and two are still missing over the past seven days after floods and landslides caused widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges and public infrastructure. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday conducted an aerial and ground survey of the affected areas.
In Maharashtra, heavy rains lashed Thane, Palghar and Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
