Bruce Foxton, veteran musician and popular former member of The Jam, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The singer and bassist shared the health diagnosis recently, just months before his 71st birthday.
Bruce Foxton confirms Parkinson’s disease diagnosis
The singer addressed online speculation about his health and confirmed a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. He also revealed that the disease resulted from complications from old cancer treatment, according to his Facebook post.“I now face a future life with Parkinson’s… and I am determined to do this as best I can. It has taken a long time for me to let that sink in and accept that my body and mind are dealing with something completely beyond my control,” he wrote.
Since last year, the singer has also been suffering from a chest infection, which has hampered his performances and led to cancellations of shows. He added: “The extreme heat combined with an underlying chest infection actually knocked me down for six years, and the medical advice was to rest while taking the medication.
“As for his diagnosis and treatment, the guitarist stated that “getting the right medications to help deal with my symptoms has given me another opportunity to continue doing what I love and what I live for in a comfortable and supportive environment.”
He concluded the post by reassuring fans about the matter, saying: “I will continue to play live as long as I am able to do so.”
What is Parkinson’s disease?
According to reports from the Cleveland Clinic, Parkinson’s disease is “a progressive condition that affects movement. It often begins with trembling, stiffness, or slowness. It occurs when brain cells that produce dopamine stop working over time. There is no cure, but medications and therapies may help manage symptoms to improve daily life.”
