District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar on Thursday informed that the water level in the district is being closely monitored amid rising flows after rainfall in the upper Himalayan regions.
Rajwar said that the current water level has reached 622 meters above sea level, while the warning level is 626 meters and the danger level is 627 metres.

He added that once the water level reaches the warning mark, alerts will be issued via WhatsApp groups, public announcements will be made using vehicles, and ground teams will be deployed to warn residents.
He added, “The water level in the region has reached 622 meters due to rainfall in the upper Himalayan regions. The warning level is 626 meters above sea level, and the danger level is 627 metres. When the water level approaches the warning level, alerts are sent through WhatsApp groups, announcements are made using vehicles, and individuals descend on the ground to warn people.”
Incessant rainfall in Rudraprayag has started affecting water levels in rivers. The water levels in the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers rose, prompting the district administration to intensify monitoring.
After continuous rainfall since Wednesday morning, the water level in the Alaknanda river rose from 622 meters above sea level on Tuesday to 622.5 meters on Wednesday. Officials have warned that if the rain continues over the next few days, the water levels in both the rivers may rise further and may approach the danger mark.
In view of the evolving situation, the district disaster control room is closely monitoring river levels. The administration appealed to residents living on the riverbanks and pilgrims to remain vigilant and avoid visiting the riverbanks or other vulnerable areas unless necessary.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Dehradun on Wednesday issued a heavy rain alert for the next four days (till July 4) in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, and the district administration urged residents to remain vigilant.
