The four-time Emmy nominee, who turns 80 on July 22, told Today and People magazine that he was diagnosed with the progressive, memory-destroying disease three years ago.“I still don’t have all the parts of it in my head,” he told People magazine. “There are moments that you keep remembering that confirm the fact that you can remember things. And there are moments that I will never forget.”He appeared on the “Today” show and said, “I can live with it, to a certain extent. I’m sure that as it progresses, things will be different and change.”

“I think it’s really important for him to have control of his own narrative, his own life story,” his daughter Mandisa said.
