Bryan Adams released a protest song for Donald Trump called “51st State”, on Canada Day, the nation’s birthday on July 1.
The song, which the legendary Canadian rocker released on YouTube and other social media platforms, celebrates the unity among Canadians in the face of a repeat U.S. president. The irony of Canada becoming the 51st state in the United States and waging a cross-border tariff war.
“Let me get it straight to you / When you talk about my house / You better show some respect / Cause we’re here taking care of our house / So let me give you some advice, mister / You might have a lot on your plate / Go load us up with tariffs / But we’ll never be the 51st state,” the lyrics of Adams’ latest song state.
Adams’ rock song is the latest nationwide rallying cry in the wake of Trump’s trade war and threats of annexation amid renewed Canadian nationalism. “For a working man, it’s easier together / We’re so much better hand in hand / But the 49th parallel has become a line drawn in the sand,” Adams’ solo adds in its lyrics.
Known for hits like “Summer of ’69,” “Heaven” and “Everything I Do (I Do It for You),” Adams, who grew up in Vancouver, has made a name on the international music scene with his love songs and rock anthems.
