Schools go on a long summer vacation all over the UAE
Students across the country officially head into summer break in early July. According to the Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, schools in Dubai and other emirates begin their summer vacation in the first week of July.Private schools in Dubai close around July 6, while public schools begin closing earlier. The school year ends for most students, and the new session is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026, giving families approximately two months of vacation time.
Sharjah extends paid parking hours until midnight
In a major move to provide convenience and revenue, the Emirate of Sharjah has extended paid public parking hours.Starting July 1, parking fees will apply until midnight in all major areas, including Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Al Dhaid.The move unifies previous discrepancies between different parking zone categories and aims to simplify the implementation process throughout the city.
Etihad Rail passenger services begin early operations
A major milestone in transportation is being achieved with Etihad Rail starting limited passenger services.
Initial operations to connect Abu Dhabi and Fujairah began in late June, with flights lasting approximately one hour and 45 minutes.The phased implementation is set to expand across the country over the coming months, with full network connectivity expected by 2027.The project is seen as a game-changer in domestic travel, as it significantly reduces dependence on roads and reshapes connectivity between the emirates.
Dubai Summer Surprises Returns huge prizes
Dubai Summer Surprises, the largest summer retail and entertainment festival in the UAE, returns from 2 July.The 60-day event will include massive discounts, concerts, food festivals, raffles and hotel deals across Dubai.This year’s edition includes prizes worth tens of millions of dirhams, including cars, gold, apartments and cash rewards, in addition to popular food campaigns such as the “10 Dirham Plate” and “Summer Restaurant Week.”
The UAE launches the trial version of the electronic invoicing system for companies
The UAE is taking a big step towards a fully digital tax system by launching an electronic invoicing system.The pilot phase begins on July 1, and targets large companies first, especially those with annual revenues of more than 50 million dirhams.The system will subsequently expand in phases, improving transparency, compliance and efficiency of tax reporting across sectors in the UAE.
Indian expatriates get a new consular services provider
In a major administrative shift affecting more than 3.5 million residents, passport and consular services for Indian citizens are being moved to a new provider.The Indian Embassy in the UAE has appointed India Travel and Tourism Limited as the sole provider of outbound services with effect from July 1. The offering includes 16 centers across all emirates, replacing previous service providers.
The UAE visa grace period ends on July 9
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has extended a temporary grace period for visa regulation, which remains in effect until July 9.After this date, affected residents must ensure full compliance with the residency rules or face penalties.
This measure was introduced to help individuals regularize their situation following recent travel disruptions.
Armenia ends visa-free travel for UAE residents
The temporary travel agreement allowing UAE residents visa-free entry into Armenia expires on July 1. While UAE nationals are not affected, expatriates who have benefited from short-stay visa-free travel will now need to check the updated entry requirements before visiting the South Caucasus country.
Emirates’ free hotel stay offer is coming to an end
Emirates’ travel promotion, which offers free accommodation at a luxury hotel in Dubai, is also set to expire in July.Travelers who book eligible tickets before mid-July can still benefit from complimentary stays at luxury hotels, including the JW Marriott Marquis, as part of the tourism push in Emirates’ inbound travel campaigns.
Flexible government working hours continue through the summer
Dubai’s public sector continues its seasonal ‘Flexible Summer Hours’ initiative introduced in late June.The program allows for reduced working hours and the option to work four days a week for government employees, with the aim of improving productivity and work-life balance during the peak summer heat in Dubai.
